Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD)
(Hyperactivity and Childhood Learning Disorders)

There are 3 separate ADD disorders:

1. ADD with hyperactivity
2. ADD without hyperactivity
3. ADD, residual type

ADD With Hyperactivity:

• greater incidence in boys than girls (10:1)
• onset usually by age 3 (diagnosis is usually made later when the child is in school)

Three possible causes:

1. chemicals, additives, preservatives, food coloring
2. sugar
3. food and/or environmental sensitivities / intolerances
   • characteristics:
     • hyperactivity

       perceptual motor impairment
     • emotion liability
     • general co-ordination deficit
     • disorders of attention (short attention span, distractibility, lack of perseverance, failure to finish things off, not listening, poor concentration)

     • disorders of speech and hearing
       neurological signs and electroencephalographic irregularities

ADD Without Hyperactivity (learning disorders):

Three possible causes:
